For my design context publication its focus will be on mixed media illustration and 3D form. Looking at freelancers and independent studios who prefer to use the process of there hands initially before using the screen.
It is a laborious previous when designing and crafting by hand, however I find it the most rewarding, the design work becomes much more personal and tells a story to the viewer. To many designers who design this way they feel that the inevitable imperfections of the nature of design my hand make the final piece more exciting and dynamic - as the end result is never visualize fully perviously or perfect.
Key areas of research:
Paper craft illustration - including set design, considering scale and placement, to collage and illustration on a 2D plain.
So maybe sections proposed should be - 2D craft and then 3D craft design.
I have in the past and plan to continue my research and look at free lance illustrators who use both or these processes. Case studies will be carried out examining how they work, there methods and conditions and the processes they use - also when erecting a set, the time it takes and who else is involved in its production.
Finally i would like to question, why there has suddenly become a new wave of mixed media illustration in the contemporary design world, has the digital age become subdued and the hands on people are rebelling? Arguing that not all design should be merely screen based.
